Registering for the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) at the Commission on Filipinos Overseas

Before a Filipino moving to Canada can leave the country, he or she will have to attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) given by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in Manila. This is a required seminar for any Filipino moving to another country. It is mandated by the law and immigration will not clear you to leave the country without proving that you have attended the PDOS.

Thankfully, registering for the seminar is relatively easy. In this post, we’ll give you a general outline on what to do to secure your PDOS slot. Oh! But please remember that you will need to already have your Permanent Resident Visa and official Landing Papers before you can register for the PDOS.

Step 1

Go to the CFO website at and scroll down until you see the following

Click on the “register” button under the “Reservation & Registration (R&) PDOS.

Step 2

You will then be directed to a page where you will see this

Go to “How to make an Online Appointment” and click on the link you see there, which will lead you to the following

Click on the yellow box.

Step 3

Fill out the form. I already filled it out as a sample.

They will then send your email with a confirmation link. Click it and you will be lead to another form which requires your personal information. Also, please take note of your visa type/category/classification. You will be able to find it on your landing papers.

Step 4

After supplying all the needed information and uploading a picture. You will be asked to pick a schedule for your PDOS. The seminar for Canada is held on Mondays thru Fridays, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, so it should be pretty easy to pick a schedule that suits you.

Keep in mind though, that there are only 60 slots per day for the PDOS for those moving to Canada, so it will be wise to schedule your PDOS as early as possible to avoid any complications. Don’t be that person who schedules their PDOS a day before they leave and then is forced to miss the seminar because of traffic etc.

Step 5

After picking your schedule, you will then be emailed a copy of your completed registration form. Save it and don’t forget to bring a copy of it on the day of your seminar along with the other requirements (landing papers, valid government ID and P400 fee).

If you have a spouse or dependents, they will need to complete the same steps above and have their own completed and printed registration form. They just have to input the reference number of the principal sponsor in the required field to access their form.

We hope that this post helped make registering for your PDOS a smoother experience. Up next, we’ll write about our actual experience and thoughts about the seminar.

Moving to Canada will be a daunting task for anyone and If there’s anything you want to ask, feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
